The Role of the US Constitution Many of the problems that we face today, as a nation, are a direct result of our government's lack of respect for the "rule of law" and of the Constitution. We all must work to reinstate constitutional standards in government from the local level, right on up, and to elect representatives who will protect and defend the Constitution as their sworn "oath of office" requires.
Reviving the Economy We want to work to elect representatives who will balance the budget by reducing the size of the government and by reducing and/or eliminating many of the entitlement and mandated programs that exist at both the state and federal level. Only in this way can we work to restore the value of the dollar, and thereby start to reduce the inflationary pressures that act as an indirect tax on every American’s savings and wages.
Foreign Trade We must work to greatly reduce the trade gap between what we export and import, paired along with a sane trade and energy policy.
Immigration (Legal and Illegal) We support legal immigration and the immigration laws that are already in place, and call on the government to enforce all laws on the issue. To take any other position would be a great unfairness to those who have complied with the legal system, and would expose our citizens to national security risks. We strongly oppose amnesty for individuals who have entered or stayed in the U.S. illegally, and support a policy of attrition though enforcement.
Military and US Foreign Policy We support the realignment of our foreign policy, and the use of the U.S. military, to address national security threats. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to our situation in Iraq--we continue to be involved in a protracted conflict where our goals of nation building remain elusive and the costs are high (approaching one trillion dollars and over 4 thousand U.S. lives). We support the development of a plan to bring our troops home at the earliest possible date, while protecting them as they withdraw.
Education California's K-12 education system is broken in every way. What needs to be fixed is not just how schools are financed, but more importantly, how the whole K-12 educational system is organized, and especially the incentives given to schools for student performance. We support returning control of how funds are spent to local school districts working cooperatively with parents (including a reduction in the number of state-mandated categorical-aid programs), while requiring accountability by school districts (and teachers) for student performance. We also support allowing parents to select the best educational options for their children, including school choice programs, school voucher programs, magnet schools, charter schools, homeschooling, and educational savings accounts.
Budget & Taxes We support an amendment to the State Constitution requiring a true balanced budget, a super-majority vote on all tax increases, zero-based budgeting and public efficiency audits for all legitimate government operations. We support candidates who will fight to reduce taxes and expenditures on social programs.
Drugs, Crime and Prisons We support the section of the California Penal Code stating that the primary purpose of incarceration is punishment. Therefore, prisoners should not be allowed gratuitous perks as outlined in the "Prisoners' Bill of Rights." We support prisoner work programs to help prisons become self-supporting. We support candidates who will work to crack down on gangs in our communities, provide real border security to prevent drugs and gang members from entering the U.S., immediately deport illegal alien inmates after serving their sentence, and reduce prison costs.
Environment We believe that entrepreneurs using technology, innovation, and incentives are more likely to solve environmental problems than are bureaucrats. We support the creation of tax credits to homeowners and builders who incorporate alternative energy systems into their homes, and also support offering tax credits to people who turn in older, high-polluting cars.
Social Services and Entitlement Programs The only true charity is found in the voluntary efforts of every compassionate person, independent of any government entitlements, dictates, or programs. We support a responsible transition to private financial alternatives, rather than maintenance or expansion of compulsory government retirement, disability, and health programs. We reject any welfare or social benefits for those who have illegally immigrated into California.
State Infrastructure California's politicians have elected to spend California's income on unnecessary social programs and have invested little money for critical infrastructure. These same politicians then insist that the only way to fund infrastructure is through bonded indebtedness. We reject that and call for reductions in unnecessary government spending so more money is available for the infrastructure our economy needs. Infrastructure should be "pay-as-you-go" as soon as possible.
